I am now in the process of applying to secure funding to write and research my second book project, Dolorous Gender: The Problem of Chicanx/Latinx Femininities and Masculinities. This project expands on the first project by considering the concept of “dolor” as a point of entry for theorizing the psycho-sexual affective registers of racialized femininities and masculinities. The project ultimately seeks to unhinge Chicanx/Latinx masculinities and femininities from the confines of bodily comportment as markers of definitive racialized gender categories.  Like the first, this project is multidisciplinary, spans multiple time periods with diverse types of cultural texts, and works across various socio-political, historical, and geographical contexts. It offers a unique and innovative approach to engaging Chicanidad and Latinidad by examining gender, race, and nationalism comparatively, hemispherically and transnationally.
